WKU Student Government Association Student Body President Caden Lucas presents his officer report during a SGA meeting in the SGA Chambers on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026.
After a brief hiatus during fall break, WKU’s Student Government Association convened on Tuesday to pass a variety of bills.
Each bill funded a new or existing service on campus, such as a game room in the Preston Center, new umbrellas and calculators for SGA’s free borrowing services, and events for Halloween and Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The meeting began with guest speaker Rachel Goodman, WKU’s director of Campus and Community Events, who discussed the importance of working with others in a respectful way, both in regard to event planning and SGA’s work.
“With events on campus… it really boils down to treating somebody the way you want to be treated,” Goodman said. “Within events, it’s still people. I think with what you all are doing tonight, it’s still people… There’s things that go awry, but it’s still people helping people.”
SGA passed Bill 8-26-F, funding a ping-pong table for a new game room in Preston Center, which will occupy a currently unused room in the building.
The new ping-pong table, complete with balls and paddles, will cost $209.99. Senators discussed the possibility of adding WKU and SGA branding to the table and paddles, but have not yet decided if they will.
Bill 10-26-F allocated funds for new umbrellas to be borrowed through SGA’s Borrow-an-Umbrella program. This program offers free umbrellas for students to borrow from the SGA office on rainy days.
When the service first began in November 2025, the SGA office had a total of six umbrellas. Since then, three umbrellas have gone missing.
Bill 10-26-F will fund six new umbrellas, totalling $56.94 in allocated funds.
Similarly, Bill 11-26-F will provide new calculators for SGA’s Calculator Rental Program. SGA allocated $276 to purchase three new TI-84 Plus CE calculators.
“The demand for the TI-84 Plus CE calculators is always high throughout the semester and our current inventory of TI-84 Plus CE calculators is running low…” the bill stated. “By funding this system, WKU SGA reaffirms its continued dedication to the academic success and accessibility of all students on the Hill.”
Other bills included funding for events, such as SGA’s Hill-O-Ween event, funded by Bill 9-26-F for $287.46. The event will consist of a movie screening on the Honors College and International Center lawn on Oct. 29 at 6 p.m.
Funding accounts for a dirty soda station, a popcorn station, materials for a pumpkin painting activity and an electric scooter giveaway to a random attendee.
“Potential movie selections include Halloweentown, Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Beetlejuice, or a mutANT Farm episode paired with It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” the bill stated.
The final selection may be determined through a poll on SGA’s Instagram page.
Bill 13-26-F allocated $55.21 for Unpacking Love, an event for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The event aims to raise awareness for potential signs of domestic violence and how to have healthy relationships.
“Control, manipulation and abuse are not signs of love,” bill author Victory Okoroji said. “This event creates an approachable way for students to learn about these behaviors without requiring anyone to share personal experiences.”
Unpacking Love will be held in DSU 2123 on Oct. 28 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
