UNC men’s soccer player Cristian Milazzo was arrested on Wednesday morning and charged with violating a domestic violence protective order — the second time in less than two months that he has been arrested on the misdemeanor charge.
According to the arrest warrant, Milazzo allegedly knowingly drove past the victim and then drove into the vicinity of her place of residence on Tuesday evening, which violates the protective order. The victim in the case previously requested anonymity from The Daily Tar Heel due to safety reasons.
His name still appears on the men’s soccer roster as of Wednesday, per GoHeels.com. UNC Media Relations did not respond to The DTH’s request for comment and an update on Milazzo’s status by the time of publication.
A magistrate issued the arrest warrant on Tuesday, and Chapel Hill Police served Milazzo with the warrant Wednesday morning before taking him to the Orange County Detention Center in Hillsborough. District Court Judge Todd Roper released Milazzo later in the day on a $2,500 unsecured bond. The release order also said Milazzo was “to have absolutely no contact whatsoever with the victim” and abide by the other provisions of the protective order. His court date in Orange County District Court is set for Nov. 5.
Milazzo was previously charged in late August with violating a protective order. The prosecution of that charge was deferred and he was placed on 12 months unsupervised probation on Sept. 3. One of the conditions of probation was that Milazzo not violate the protective order, which prohibits him from being within 500 feet of the victim or showing up at her place of residence or work.
Milazzo’s lawyer did not respond to The DTH’s request for comment by the time of publication.
