Because Jacksonville is not in the direct path of Hurricane Isaias, the university remains open as of Friday, Oct. 9. However, UNF sports teams are navigating the effects of Isaias’ landfall.
With many University of North Florida athletic teams on the road for away games and invitationals, Hurricane Isaias will not alter most Ospreys’ schedules.
As Isaias approaches Florida, UNF athletic teams are navigating adjustments across several sports. While many athletes compete in Virginia, Kentucky and Miami, home events face a mix of broadcasts, schedule shifts, and cancellations.
Softball cancellation
Among the home schedule changes, UNF Athletics canceled the softball team’s preseason scrimmage against Rollins College scheduled for Saturday, according to an Instagram post from the Rollins College Softball team.
Tennis, golf, soccer, and swimming
Meanwhile, the women’s tennis team travels to Miami for the ITA Southeast Regional Championships this weekend.
Additionally, the women’s golf team is competing at the Evie Odom Invitational in Virginia Beach, Virginia on Friday, Oct. 9, and Saturday, Oct. 10.
On the soccer pitch, the men’s team plays Bellarmine University at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky. Simultaneously, the women’s soccer team plays Stetson University in DeLand, Florida, with a live broadcast on ESPN+ on Sunday, Oct. 11.
Back on campus, the women’s swim team remains scheduled to compete at the UNF Competition Pool Complex on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m., according to the schedule. This event marks UNF’s first swim meet broadcast on ESPN+.
Other events at Hodges Stadium
Other teams utilizing UNF’s Hodges Stadium have also been impacted. Matches for Sporting JAX men’s and women’s soccer have been postponed.
Specifically, the Sporting JAX women’s match against DC Power FC, originally scheduled for Friday, Oct. 9, has been moved to Nov. 15, 2026, at 5 p.m.
For the Sporting JAX men’s team, the USL Championship match against Birmingham Legion FC moved from Saturday, Oct. 10, at 5 p.m. to Saturday at 1 p.m.
According to a press release from Sporting JAX, the match will be closed to the public and moved from Hodges Stadium because field conditions may be unplayable. While spectators cannot attend in person, fans can stream the action on ESPN+.
