Mandela University’s Carl Leshilo completes China-Aid International Standardisation Training
Facilitated by China’s Ministry of Commerce, The International Standardization Development of Service Trade for BRI Partner Countries programme was hosted at the International Standardization Talent Training and Communication Base.
The programme explored international standardisation, service trade, trade facilitation, institutional cooperation and the role of standards in cross-border economic activity.
In Shenzhen, Leshilo also engaged with universities, technology hubs and industries focused on automotive manufacturing, green energy, entrepreneurship and technological innovation.
These engagements provided insights into how standardisation, research, technical skills and industrial capacity drive innovation and international trade.
They also highlighted the role of universities in connecting research, industry and entrepreneurship within broader development ecosystems.
For SHoC, the experience demonstrated the value of platforms that connect students, academics, industry, communities and international institutions to address practical development challenges.
It also opened opportunities to explore partnerships between Mandela University and relevant Chinese institutions and industries.
Beyond professional development, the programme offered valuable perspectives on advancing the University’s internationalisation, knowledge exchange and strategic partnerships, strengthening connections between the University, industry, communities and global partners.
