On Thursday, Oct. 15, University of Kentucky students, staff and faculty can expect to see a university-wide alert on their phones and emails.
The UK Police Department’s Division of Crisis Management and Preparedness is conducting a test of the campus emergency notification system through a UK Alert, according to UKNow.
UK Police will be testing all alert methods: text, email, phone calls, digital signage, Cisco phones, indoor speakers, desktop notifications, outdoor speakers, the UK website and the SafeZone app.
According to UKNow, the UK Alert system will send out a message reading “UK ALERT: This is a test of the UK Alert system. This is only a test. Please complete the survey at go.uky.edu/ukalertsurvey.”
Students who have provided a phone number in myUK are automatically enrolled in phone call and text UK Alerts.
The UKNow article said employees are encouraged to download the SafeZone app to ensure they receive alerts on their phones.
”All members of the campus community should take a moment to review emergency preparedness and response information. Additionally, following the test, take this short survey,” the article said.
Questions or concerns regarding the test can be directed to the UK Division of Crisis Management and Preparedness at [email protected].
