College After Incarceration
College After Incarceration
Holly Seals, News Editor
October 13, 2026
Returning to college after incarceration takes courage, determination and resilience. Along with the normal challenges of school, many students are balancing employment, housing, family responsibilities, reentry barriers and the pressure of building a new future.
You don’t have to do it alone. Madison College is exploring the creation of a support group for students who have experienced incarceration. The goal is to build a community where students can connect with peers who understand the unique challenges of reentry, share resources, encourage one another and celebrate successes together. The group would meet weekly or every other week, depending on interest and availability.
There is strength in numbers. Together, students can create a space centered on support, accountability, hope and opportunity.
