Women’s soccer concludes home stint with loss against Campbell Women’s soccer concludes home stint with loss against Campbell Emma Shkurti, news staff October 14, 2026 Lili Sposato Sophomore defender Ava Gialanella races for the ball during a game against Elon University Oct. 8. The Huskies fell 3-0 to Campbell University Oct. 11. Northeastern women’s soccer (5-6-3, 3-2-1 CAA) slipped 3-0 to the Campbell University Camels (4-7-4, 1-3-2 CAA) Oct. 11 in its penultimate home game of the regular season.  This was the Huskies’ third game in eight days. Coming off of a two-day rest since their win against Elon University, recovery was an important factor in the game.  “I think we played Thursday like a single game and that bit us, and that’s my fault,” said head coach Ashley Phillips. “That’s something I have to be better at.”  Campbell first sent the ball forward and positioned itself deep into the space of right field. Junior forward Ava Kanaar had an early opportunity, facing senior goalkeeper Eliza Teplow in the box, but shot wide to the left in the third minute.  Three minutes later, Campbell set up for a corner kick taken by junior midfielder Abby Connolly. The ball soared to the middle of the box, and Kanaar found it, sinking it into the bottom left corner of the net to put the Camels on the board.  “We started really flat, and they capitalized [on it],” Phillips said. “Credit to Campbell; I think they’ve been a good team all year and they struggled to get results, and they took advantage of this opportunity of us just not starting well.”  Coming up the other way, sophomore defender Ava Gialanella took a free kick for Northeastern that eventually volleyed to sophomore defender Nicole Bartlett, whose shot went over the crossbar.  Both teams were quick to tackle and tangle each other up, unafraid to make contact as they fought for possession of the ball. In the 18th minute, Kanaar made a light push to ground a Northeastern defender, running the ball up left field. Kanaar passed Connolly, who took a shot outside the box. The ball appeared to be going high, forcing Teplow to jump, but it dropped behind her and into the goal to extend the lead to 2-0.  While playing from behind, the Huskies attempted to formulate precise attacking stints by waiting for near-perfect touches, but this hesitation allowed Campbell to permeate through their passes.  The second half reflected the first, with an even amount of possessions and a stagnation in finishes.  In the 55th minute, freshman forward Bridget Durkin received a long pass to the left side of the box. Her shot was caught by the senior goalkeeper Anaïs van Doesburg, but it fired up a home crowd that wanted more.  In the 60th minute, a free kick was awarded to the Camels. Sophomore defender Kira Moore fired a ball into the box that was struck by senior midfielder Zahra Fepessi, who headed the ball over Teplow and netted the Camels’ third goal of the game.  “[Teplow] has really good natural instincts, and thankfully for us, they replicate really well in her style of goalkeeping,” Phillips said, adding,  “You’re locked in some days, and nothing’s getting by you. You wish you had those every day, but that’s not possible.”  The game wound down with midfield contests, a couple more bright chances for the Huskies and many clears on both sides of the pitch.  “We are very fortunate our bench is very lively. Players come in and try to raise the level. We have 26 kids that care a lot, and I think it shows,” Phillips said. “We just weren’t good enough today.”  The Huskies will play the Towson University Tigers (7-5-2, 4-2 CAA) on the road Oct. 17 at 3 p.m. 0 Like This Story Share on Facebook Share on X Email this Story Print this Story About the Contributor Emma Shkurti, News Staff Emma Shkurti is a second-year biology major.
