Fullerton College set to host first public mural on campus Fullerton College set to host first public mural on campus Ethnic Studies and Student Equity Division hosts art event in hopes of creating community and representation on campus. Athena Rendon, Staff Reporter October 12, 2026 Joshua Miranda The Fullerton College library is located in the heart of Fullerton College, a place to study for students. Fullerton residents will have the chance to participate in a communal hands-on effort to create Fullerton College’s first public mural by the 2300 building starting Oct. 12, hosted by the Ethnic Studies and Student Equity Division. The event features community paint days on various Mondays throughout October and November from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Room 2305. Guests are expected to RSVP early, as there is limited space. Project Director and Fullerton College professor Amber Gonzalez created the event initially as a main project for the new Chicana and Latina feminism class, with students working on the mural before the set community times. “It’s really meant to bring different indigenous cultural bearers, activists, artists, [and] scholars…to really indigenize the campus,” Gonzalez says. “Both in terms of creating different spaces….because currently there are not any institutional support.” Story continues below advertisement The mural will be led by Chicana muralist and multimedia artist Lilia Ramirez. Ramirez is a cultural activist and artist with over 30 years of experience who now serves as an arts educator. “It was really important for us to have somebody who had experience, knowledge, and understanding of the importance of working with community,” Gonzalez says. “The way murals were used was really about community empowerment to tell collective stories and to get local people involved in beautifying the space, in connecting with one another, and so she was really well versed in that in that work.” Attending visitors will have the chance to fill the mural alongside Lilia Ramirez as she mentors them through painting on seven panels for the installation. Visitors who choose to participate are also highly encouraged to wear comfortable clothing. A larger family-friendly paint day will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., allowing more Fullerton residents to participate. The event is expected to be photographed for FC Division archive purposes. Attending painters who do not wish to be photographed will be provided a wristband to let photographers know they will not be included in photos or videos. More details can be found here.
