After traveling over 14 hours to Scotland to compete in the St. Andrews Links Collegiate Tournament, Texas women’s golf is returning home with team and individual titles. The Longhorns secured the top seed in stroke play before advancing to Wednesday’s championship match against the University of St. Andrews, where the Longhorns defeated them 5-1.
Texas began stroke play on Monday, opening the tournament 5-under par after the first 18 holes to take a six-stroke lead. Senior Farah O’Keefe led the team with a 5-under 67, placing second individually behind Washington fifth-year Hannah Ounap.
Along with O’Keefe, Texas counted scores from freshman Charlotte Naughton, who shot 2-under 70 in her first collegiate match for Texas, senior Selina Liao at 1-under 71, junior Isla McDonald-O’Brien at 1-over 73 and senior Lauren Kim at 2-over 74. Junior Anastasia Hekkonen carded a 7-over 79, but her score was excluded from the team total in the five scores format.

Even with strong winds creating difficult conditions on the course, the Longhorns concluded stroke play on Tuesday, finishing 36 holes at 15-over par, 13 strokes better than any other team during the second round. St. Andrews placed second at 38-over, followed by Washington at 41-over and the University of Pennsylvania at 52-over.
O’Keefe and Ounap earned co-medalist honors, finishing as the only two players under par at 2-under 70. O’Keefe secured her seventh career victory and moved into second on the Texas women’s golf career wins list, surpassing Sheri Steinhauer at six wins and trailing only Michiko Hattori, who won 10.
All six of Texas’ players finished in the top-15, with five finishing in the top-10. Naughton was even-par and finished third, Liao finished fifth at 5-over 77, Kim finished sixth at 6-over 78, McDonald-O’Brien tied for seventh at 7-over 79 and Hekkonen tied for fifteenth at 12-over 84.
The Longhorns headed into medal match play on Wednesday as the No. 1 seed, and Liao helped them draw first blood. She shot a 3-over 75 to win her match against St. Andrews sophomore Ellie Monk who shot 6-over 78, putting Texas up 1-0 as a team.
McDonald-O’Brien finished her match even par against St. Andrews freshman Alice Webb, who shot 2-over 74. Naughton dropped her match against St. Andrews sophomore Mathilda Orring, shooting 7-over 79 to Orring’s 4-over 76.
Kim was able to clinch the team win with a 6-over 78 performance against St. Andrews freshman Chloe Tarkany who shot 8-over 80.
O’Keefe and Hekkonen also won their matches. O’Keefe finished even-par against St. Andrews freshman Mattison Frick, who shot 7-over 79. Hekkonen trailed most of her match, but was able to even the score on the 15th hole before edging out St. Andrews freshman Carmen Lim, shooting 4-over 76 to Lim’s 5-over 77.
With the win over St. Andrews, Texas caps off a dominant week in Scotland, highlighted by O’Keefe’s co-medalist finish and seventh career win. The Longhorns will look to continue their success on Oct. 26 as they travel to Hawaii to compete in the Nanea invitational.
