The event will begin at 11 a.m. on Oct. 19, and will also be live streamed on McMaster’s YouTube channel.
Maureen MacDonald, provost and vice-president (Academic), will deliver McMaster’s 2026 State of the Academy address on Monday, Oct.19.
The event will begin at 11 a.m. in Convocation Hall, University Hall, and will be followed by an informal reception. Registration for in-person attendance reached capacity soon after it opened.
The address will also be live streamed on McMaster’s YouTube channel. Registration is not required to watch online.
“The State of the Academy is an opportunity to recognize the important work underway across our academic community and to consider how we can build on it together,” says MacDonald.
“Our academic mission is at the heart of the university’s ambitions. I look forward to sharing some of the ways our community is advancing excellence in teaching, research and the student experience, while looking ahead to the opportunities and challenges before us.”
During the address, MacDonald will provide updates from areas within the provost’s portfolio. She will also share enrolment and research funding statistics, highlight achievements and speak to the academic priorities of Bolder Together, McMaster’s strategic plan.
The address will look ahead to emerging opportunities, and the university’s continued efforts to strengthen its impact locally, nationally and globally, while advancing meaningful partnerships with Indigenous communities.
“I hope this event will help members of our community see how their work connects to McMaster’s broader priorities and to one another,” says MacDonald.
“It is also an opportunity to think together about McMaster’s next globally significant innovation in teaching and learning, and how we can focus our efforts to make that possible.”
The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer period with members of the audience.
Following the address, MacDonald’s presentation and a summary of the event will be published on the McMaster News website, giving members of the university community an additional opportunity to learn more about the themes and initiatives discussed.
